VICE PRESIDENTE

The progenitor of this cocktail by LyAnna Sanabria, the El Presidente, came from a time when Yanquis were escaping the dour doldrums of Prohibition America for the sun- and booze-soaked shores of Cuba. While the El Presidente in question was Cuban, the Vice Presidente honors the first female Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.

The original used rum exclusively, but the most unique ingredient was the Blanc style of vermouth from Chambéry in France. The brand used was Comoz, recently brought back to life by Haus Alpenz and Maison Dolin et Cie, which happens to pair perfectly with Bimini.

The split of the spirit base between Bimini Coconut and Plantation Pineapple adds complexity, depth, and a very round flavor. The stone fruit notes of Comoz combined with the bright pineapple of Plantation and sweet orange of the Curaçao create an almost punch-like profile, while the coconut asserts the drink’s distinctly tropical character.

0.5 oz Plantation Pineapple
1.0 oz C. Comoz Vermouth Blanc de Chambéry
